Hello!
Although born and raised in Somerset, UK, between the World Heritage City of Bath and the medieval City of Wells, LK Sloan has spent the last 38 years in the US and has taken much of her inspiration to date from the outstanding natural beauty of the Emerald Coast in NW-Florida and the secluded Appalachian mountain forests around Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Sloan has delved in many mediums including paper-maché, jewellery-making, photography, collages, and the like. Still, it took enduring a great loss to unearth her zeal for sculpted art and she has aspired to bring the canvas to life by adding texture through layering plaster and acrylics. This impasto effect has taken off and her work has been displayed at the Mattie Kelly Festival of the Arts in Destin, Florida, the SAAG National Juried Show at the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Assoc. in Georgia, The Artel Gallery in Pensacola, The Sacred Heart Hospital of the Emerald Coast, and The Foster Gallery in Miramar Beach where she received Award of Merit at the Faces & Figures exhibit. She was also featured Artist of the Month at the Coastal Branch Library in Santa Rosa Beach in May, 2017. Additionally, her artwork was predominantly featured throughout a Seagrove Beach condominium unit that HGTV filmed for an upcoming episode.
On Sloan’s return to Somerset, she aptly joined the Somerset Art Works and her current work will be on exhibit for their Silver Anniversary of Somerset Art Weeks, a county-wide annual celebration, September 21 – October 6, at the Pylle Village Hall.
